An important update, released on 6/27/20:
We have spent the last several months preparing for convention. A planning process reviewing every aspect of convention and how it will be affected by COVID-19 was undertaken. Constant review of the Governors Proclamations and the Center for Disease Control guidelines and how they would change the look and feel of convention was also done. Just some of the hurdles we encountered were venues and vendors pulling out, the need for increased sanitation, how to ensure social distancing and the decreased availability of help. Even though we had plans in place to overcome several of these issues the decision came down to one major issue we could not overcome, safety. The Grinnell Fire Department’s main purpose is for the protection of the citizens of Grinnell. It is the opinion of our group that without drastic changes that would alter the total appearance and all the fun things people enjoy at convention, we could not provide a safe environment for our citizens, our workers and the attendants. It is with reluctance, and a great expense to our organization, that we announce the cancelation of the 2020 Convention. We will miss seeing everyone this year and hope you will all understand how difficult this decision was. At this point our focus will shift to the 2021 Convention. It is our hope that we will make this the best event ever. As mentioned, any reservations made will be carried over to the 2021 Convention.
